    Ian Wylie Review added: 2018.10.27
I booked Anchorage - or The Sandsend Holiday Cottage as it's known online - for a 4 night stay at the start of June for just me and the dog.
My initial hopes were just for some sunshine, as I was looking to do as much running and walking as possible. I struck lucky on that score, and didn't see a drop of rain during the days I was there; most unusual for a seaside trip!
The Cottage itself is part of a row of terraced Cottages, overlooking a beck that runs directly into the sea. It's been recently modernised, but without losing it's traditional feel. There's a Living Room downstairs with main bedroom and smaller, kids bedroom upstairs, along with a small bathroom. Small is definitely a good description - unfortunately at 6ft 4" I was constantly banging my head on stuff, something worth noting if you're on the tall side!
There's a small garden at the back of the Cottage, on 3 levels. This proved a bit of a challenge for Soozi the dog, as it's fairly steep, and not separated from the garden of the adjoining Cottage. After the first day I tended to just take her our the front on the lead, as it was easier and safer. You can sit in the garden - it even has astroturf - but I much preferred sitting on the bench at the front of the Cottage with it's sea views.
As you've probably guessed by now, one small, well behaved dog is allowed - a real benefit for anyone looking to enjoy a short break at the seaside with man's best friend. Part of the beach at Sandsend is also dog friendly, and Soozi certainly enjoyed running, exploring and falling in rock pools - good job I brought extra towels!
The Cottage provides all the basic amenities you'll need - worth mentioning the wifi and the Freesat TV, if the weather is bad at least there's plenty to keep you entertained and connected!
The reason for booking the Cottage was to explore the surrounding area, and on that front I certainly wasn't disappointed. The Cleveland Way is just a stones throw away, and lets you explore the route of the old Sandsend Railway Line. In the opposite direction, you can run, or walk, the beach all the way to Whitby. I couldn't have asked for any more really.
Coupled with an excellent pub in Sandsend - The Hart Inn - the Sandsend Holiday Cottage proved a perfect base for a relaxing break in one of the lesser known spots of the Yorkshire coast. I'll definitely be returning!
